Top Edits in Edit Counter show "TMP" assessment
Closed, DeclinedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

The "Template" section at https://xtools.wmflabs.org/ec/en.wikipedia.org/1234qwer1234qwer4#top-edited-pages shows the first two entries with a "TMP" assessment next to the "unknown" symbol despite them being tagged template-class.

The corresponding page on the Top Edits tool, https://xtools.wmflabs.org/topedits/en.wikipedia.org/1234qwer1234qwer4/10, currently shows "Unknown" for all the pages, apparently due to T247792, but would probably show the same.

Per usual, it's an issue with a template. The correct value is Template, not TMP. I've started a discussion at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:WikiProject_Military_history#Template:WikiProject_Military_history/Class_storing_non-standard_values should you wish to join.

We could implement normalization of the values in XTools, but it really bothers me that the inconsistency is in the database itself, meaning every consumer of this data must do the same normalization. Better we fix the templates.

The other "Unknown"s can probably be resolved by picking the first non-blank assessment associated with the page, which may or may not be very efficient. We can address that in T247792.

Since there's a no-action on the XTools end, I'll mark this as declined. But I will actively monitor the on-wiki discussion and try to get that fixed. Thanks for reporting!
