Hi @Tsevener ! Do you mean this bug?

I reproduced it on both Android and iOS mobile phones.

For some reason, the horizontal scroll disappears and works fine after scrolling down the article.

See Arlo's response in T312667#8066492 .. Not sure if these two tasks are duplicates.

vadim-kovalenko changed the task status from Open to In Progress.EditedJul 14 2022, 2:28 PM

Yes, it's the same issue. Set this task in progress.

Upd: The reason is figure { display: table } rule coming from https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/services/mobileapps/+/787935/2/private/styles/mediawiki/parsoid.less#118

Hi,
Two more contributor reported this issue

From Znuny

When looking at an article, it’s possible to scroll horizontally to the right, showing
empty space.

Version: WikipediaApp/6.9.2.1932 (iOS 15.5; Phone)

Znuny

Articles in the app have a tremendous amount of white space to the right of the article.
When I’m scrolling, if my finger drifts a little bit “northwest” instead of pure “north,”
the article scrolls off into the white space.

Hi @vadim-kovalenko,

Sorry for the delay on looking at this. I think this task was actually a much smaller bug and has been around for a long time - that's why we prioritized it as low. Here's me testing it against a local version of PCS from March of this year (SHA 38e5e36):

38e5e36.gif (1×1 px, 3 MB)

Notice how when it's in portrait, the content doesn't horizontally bounce, but when it's in landscape, it does. Ideally it shouldn't bounce at all if the content fits the screen in landscape. The unnecessary bouncing is this task's bug. I also think this bouncing may be specific to the iPad mini's particular landscape width - I wasn't able to reproduce it on the iPad 11-inch or iPhone.

Currently however, things are worse, and we have a big space on the right when we first load in portrait mode. Here's me testing it against the latest PCS commit (SHA 3aa84e08):

3aa84e08.gif (1×1 px, 3 MB)

The big blank space on the right in portrait mode is the bug in T312667, and I was able to reproduce it on multiple different devices & screen sizes (we're also getting a lot of complaints about it). So that one is a high priority.

Hope that clears things up, thanks!

+1 user from our iOS support email:

with the table of contents shown on the left side, the article contents on the right side are scrollable horizontally. This leads to an unsteady scrolling experience and makes reading less enjoyable.
