Access to ptwikinews Search Console for Edu
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Hi! I am a sysop from Wikinotícias Portuguese and following the Wikitech process I request access to Google Search Console.

The Portuguese-speaking community supported (and had already discussed in the past). Wikinews doesn't appear in results, we just need access to the Search Console.

Access will be for a short period of time and only to add Wikinews to the search results. Code below:

google-site-verification=pXxiOJyVBShKSb5nfM4CZ5S2RGOwFEw84GjUyY1ftcU

Or add the following code to the main page of Portuguese Wikinews. Must be added between <head>

<meta name="google-site-verification" content="d12HhiS3m7t9-gq4hUmqQBgCS6ZEcFIGMtkj7G70aKo" />

@Edu: Hi, per https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Google_Search_Console_access , do you have a valid NDA on file with WMF Legal, and a WMF sponsor?

ssingh triaged this task as Medium priority.

@Aklapper Hi! Yes, I already signed the non-disclosure agreement

Tbh, I'm suspicious of the need to access here. The tokens provided are for connecting a (previously unconnected) site to a search console, while all Wikimedia projects are already connected and validated.

Also, given this is a request for a single action, I would suggest pairing with someone with access rather than soliciting access on your own -- it's way easier (and preferred) if access isn't regularly needed.

I'm honestly surprised by your answer @Urbanecm. This is an explicit problem in almost all Wikinews languages. As I stated earlier I need access for a short period of time, it can be up to 24 hours.

Hi all. I have brought this up and are discussing this internally in SRE. I will update the ticket when I have more information. Thank you.

That's exactly what I'm talking about -- I find pairing up with someone who has access much more efficient than going through the full access request process only for 24 hours :-).

But, it is not my call to decide this one, I just wanted to note that I don't see a reason for long-term access (and thus I find pairing with someone else more efficient).

@jbond I haven't been able to locate a record of the NDA. Is the user an employee, contractor, or volunteer?

@jbond I haven't been able to locate a record of the NDA. Is the user an employee, contractor, or volunteer?

The user is a volunteer. Based on off-phab discussion with requestor, this user actually signed https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/ANIP, not the full NDA with legal.

@Urbanecm @jbond Okay, no problem! I will need to set up an NDA. I will need the volunteer's:

Full legal name
Mailing address
Email address
Specifics about the type of sensitive data they will be accessing

Please send this info to my email: kfrancis@wikimedia.org

thanks @KFrancis

@Edu As you dont have an NDA on record you will need a WMF sponsor as well as arranging the NDA with @KFrancis. I wonder if it would be possible/easier to go the route suggested by @Urbanecm and try to pair with someone who already has access.

@jbond it's okay to follow Urbanecm's suggestion.

Thanks @Edu i will resolve this ticket for now but please re-open if we can help further, thanks

Hi @Aklapper, could you tell me a Wikimedia employee or system administrator who has access to the Search Console? I try to talk to one, on the Talk page of this user who quotes me, about something related to a Search Console function.

@Juan90264: Hi, please ask general Search Console questions on-wiki instead. This task is only about Edu's request and is closed.
See also https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Google_Search_Console_access . Thanks a lot.
