What: Clean up, expand, and reorganize Meta-Wiki's documentation on data, dashboards, and research
When: During the Wikimania Hackathon, Friday, 13 August 05:00 UTC to Saturday, 14 August 05:00 UTC
Who: All are welcome! People familiar with Wikimedia data or Wikimedia movement documentation will be especially helpful.
How:

  • Hang out in this Jitsi room (feel free to join without audio or video if you just want to chat)
  • Read the instructions and coordinate in this Google doc.
  • Use the hashtag #wikimania2021datadocs in your edit summaries.

Excited to see this happening! It might be nice to also post some advance notice (though it's not much at this point) on the talk pages so it's less likely to catch folks by surprise and to help advertise. I don't know if there's any one perfect place but https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research_talk:Index seems like a reasonable place. If no objections, I'm willing to do this given that I brought it up (but I'm also happy to have @nshahquinn-wmf or others take the lead on this).

Yes, good idea! I've announced it on the wiki-research-l mailing list and on several channels on the Wikimedia Foundation Slack. I'll go ahead and do that page and the analytics mailing list as well. If you can think of anywhere else, please feel free to share it there too!

@Mayakp.wiki, @jwang, @Slst2020, @Isaac, and I had a friendly and productive documentation day!

In total, we made 66 edits across 10 different pages. You can find most of them by looking for the #wikimedia2021datadocs edit hashtag.

Our improvements included:
