Add *.staticflickr.com to the wgCopyUploadsDomains allowlist of Wikimedia Commons
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

It seems that files hosted in Flickr are no longer stored as *.flickr.com URLs but rather as *.staticflickr.com URLs. I don’t know when this change happened, but I discovered it when I uploaded there a video file larger than 100 MB in order to later upload it to Wikimedia Commons from there.

According to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Upload_tools/wgCopyUploadsDomains as well as the server-side version of that variable, *.staticflickr.com is in wgCopyUploadsDomains. If you see any error message, please paste it here. Closing as invalid in the meantime.

Trying to upload to the Commons from a *.staticflickr.com URL, I get this full-screen error message:

Error
Our servers are currently under maintenance or experiencing a technical problem. Please try again in a few minutes.

See the error message at the bottom of this page for more information.

If you report this error to the Wikimedia System Administrators, please include the details below.

Request from [IPv4 address redacted] via cp1085 cp1085, Varnish XID 206409104
Error: 503, Backend fetch failed at Wed, 15 Sep 2021 19:42:22 GMT

Well, strangely, in spite of me getting the error message, the file DID upload.

This looks to be a timeout error. It's not related to allowlisting the domain. It might be worth a bug report though -- not sure.
