List of common templates/snippets in the DiscussionTool editor
Open, Needs TriagePublicFeature

Description

When editing in the DiscussionTool, a drop down of common templates/snippets would be useful. For example {{done}}, etc. This helps newer users discover these templates.

Exactly what these snippets are would be configured on-wiki:

WikiEditor has this: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiEditor/Toolbar_customization#action

I do not know if there is such a thing with VE (I certainly don't see any documentation of it).

@Inductiveload – we're glad you filed this! We are not going to take action on this immediately.

Although, if you remember, we would value you commenting other templates you would see value being made more accessible within the tool.

@ppelberg For a start, basically all the commenting/voting templates like {{done}}, {{doing}}, {{not done}}, {{support}}, {{oppose}}, {{delete}}, {{keep}}, etc (obviously, the exact menu depends on the wiki and the page).

In the New Discussion Tool, user warning templates like {{uw-spam1}} could be useful as well, although subst: may not work well in visual mode. In the Reply Tool, these discussion-initiating templates make no sense.

Meta: @Inductiveload + @Tacsipacsi, so y'all are aware, @JTannerWMF and the Android Team are experimenting with functionality that also seeks to make it possible for people to more quickly add language/templates they use often within the comments they are posting and discussions they are starting on talk pages: T288105.
