Enable WikidataPageBanner on MediaWiki.org
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

When writing a guide or documentation it would be nice to be able to add banner images to populate them with an infographic or another image like on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Technical_Conference/2018.

It seems like this is an extension that just needs to be enabled, it would be that one: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikidataPageBanner

WikidataPageBanner adds the banners to every page in a namespace, and also heavily integrates with Wikidata (which we do not use that ofter on mw.o). Are there alternative solutions that would work instead?

No. It is only invoked via {{PAGEBANNER}} and the image may be custionized.

Hi, could you maybe elaborate on the use case? I understand having a representative photo on a travel-oriented site like Wikivoyage, however I'm afraid of obfuscating text content (forcing me to always scroll down, as in this example which adds an unhelpful huge non-scaling image with no information value) on a rather documentation-oriented site, and I would expect infographics not to be at the very top of a page?
