Have a way for a mentor or a mentee to confirm an action made to claim a mentee
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Any mentor can claim any mentee using Special:ClaimMentee. When the action is done, is it logged and the mentee receives a notification saying that they have a new mentor.

As a mentor, I have no way to know that a mentee has been claimed from me.
As a mentee, I can be claimed by a mentor without giving my approval.

As a consequence,

  • a mentee should have a way to acknowledge that their mentor will change, and if they disapprove, they should be given an alternative (for instance, accessing a special page to ask for another mentor - T292068)
  • a mentor should confirm that they are okay to see their mentee being assigned to another mentor. This doesn't apply to a mentor not on the mentors list anymore, or if the mentee made the request.

As a mentor, I have no way to know that a mentee has been claimed from me.

A notice would be relatively easy, much more so than an approval mechanism.

In general, this seems like something that would take a lot of effort to do and we don't have any evidence that mentees want this or would use it. A link for reporting problems + reliance on wikis' normal conduct management mechanisms might be a better approach.

+1, I would scope this task to that particular item.

Also +1.

I am going to move this to "triaged" but if you'd like more discussion on it @Trizek-WMF please say so.

While reviewing existing #growth-mentorship tasks, I noticed this task again. We have this notification now thanks to T289599: Claim mentee: Send a notification to former mentor. Should we (re)scope this task to include some sort of approval mechanism, or close it as resolved?

We covered the case of mentors, not the case of mentees.

Mentees received a notification since the begining of Claim mentee (we added one for mentors in T289599). Here is how the notification looks like for the mentee:

Here is a notification that's sent to the mentor:

I think the question is now whether we want an additional mechanism, apart from notifications, or whether this can be considered resolved for now.

Hopefully you have a better memory than mine. Sorry.

I think we are good here.

Urbanecm_WMF claimed this task.

No worries! Resolving -- feel free to reopen if there is anything left to do here.
