In the case of Suggested links trying to add a plural as [[cat]]s, a <nowiki/> tag is (sometimes?) inserted.

I think this is the same as T283985: Add Link: word substrings are turned into links, which has a patch and needs review. I think we could close this as a duplicate, does that sound ok @Trizek-WMF ?
