VideoJS embedded player: Black screen, no video, controls in middle of screen
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

List of steps to reproduce (step by step, including full links if applicable):

What happens?:
The player is black and the icons are in the middle of the screen

What should have happened instead?:
The VideoJS player should correctly embed and play the video properly with the icons in the correct part of the screen.

Software version (if not a Wikimedia wiki), browser information, screenshots, other information, etc:
Tested on Firefox 93.0 and Google Chrome 94.0.4606.81

Noting that this also breaks embedding Wikimedia Commons videos in Phabricator when a user has the VideoJS player enabled. See J18 for example.

Aklapper renamed this task from VideoJS embedded player is broken to VideoJS embedded player: Black screen, no video, controls in middle of screen.Oct 15 2021, 10:21 AM

I can confirm with Firefox 93 on Linux. I went to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures . "New video player" is enabled. I go to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:EXPO-1520_train_parade_in_2021.webm?embedplayer=yes . After clicking the "Play" button, I can hear audio but the screen remains black.
