Description

A couple of weeks ago, we already requested to disable linkrecommendation for new accounts (see https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T288420#7371590 ). Unfortunately, we still see dozens of questionable or unsuitable links being added via this feature on a daily basis, leading to irritation, disputes and complaints in the community:

Huh? I just corrected the description, but according to the log, I also changed Prio and Subcribers?! Sorry about that, don't know how this happened.

I reassigned everyone who was in the linkrecommendation variant to the control variant instead. This way, no one should continue to see link recommendation. Sorry about the inconvenience!

For posterity, here's a list of users reassigned: P17644, and here's a list of users with links as their only task selected: P17645 (for those users, I reset the task selections into the default, to avoid seeing "no task" screen).

A new link was added yesterday, and I just tried it myself: The task type is still available:

@Tkarcher you need to remove the task type again from MedaiWiki:NewcomerTasks.json, like @Urbanecm_WMF did in https://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:NewcomerTasks.json&diff=prev&oldid=216850523

We don't have built in support to Special:EditGrowthConfig for disabling the task type (T294518: Add Image: Allow disabling feature via community configuration), so each time someone uses that form, the task type gets added back.

Sorry for that. As you can see in the bot's comments above, I just set the default homepage variant to control, which I missed the other day. Can you try now please?
