This task will track the racking, setup, and OS installation of backup2008
Hostname / Racking / Installation Details
Hostnames: backup2008 rack B4/U 7 xe-4/0/6
Racking Proposal: Anywhere on 10G racks, ideally not sharing a rack (for sure) or row (preferred) with backup200[123].
Networking/Subnet/VLAN/IP: 10G, production-eqiad-network. Same network as backup200[123].
Partitioning/Raid: First SSD - not part of a RAID Second SSD - not part of the RAID. All others (HDs): RAID6. The os should end up seeing 3 disks, sda, sdb (of aprox 480 GB each) and sdc (of around 160 available TB). The recipe after that is: partman/custom/backup-format.cfg
OS Distro: Buster
Per host setup checklist
Each host should have its own setup checklist copied and pasted into the list below.
backup2008:
- - receive in system on procurement task T294442 & in coupa
- - rack system with proposed racking plan (see above) & update netbox (include all system info plus location, state of planned)
- - bios/drac/serial setup/testing
- - add mgmt dns (asset tag and hostname) and production dns entries in netbox, run cookbook sre.dns.netbox.
- - network port setup via netbox, run homer to commit
- - firmware update (idrac, bios, network, raid controller)
- - operations/puppet update - this should include updates to install_server dhcp and netboot, and site.pp role(insetup) or cp systems use role(insetup::nofirm).
- - OS installation & initital puppet run via wmf-auto-reimage
Once the system(s) above have had all checkbox steps completed, this task can be resolved.
