Scroll position is not maintained after clicking on the Edit button on the sticky header
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Visit the Beta Cluster: https://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/.
  2. Log in (if you are not already).
  3. Ensure the Use Legacy Vector setting is disabled within Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering.
  4. Visit a page within the main namespace, like Cats.
  5. Ensure your page is at least 1200px wide.
  6. Scroll the page down.
  7. Notice the sticky header appears.
  8. Click on the Edit button.

Observed Result: The editor opens at the top of the article, it didn't open at the scroll position where the user clicked on the Edit button.

Expected Result: The editor should open at the position where the user clicked on the Edit button like it does more intuitively with section editing.

Environment: Beta cluster.

Should this be closed as a duplicate of T293158? In that ticket, we're still trying to decide what happens when you click edit, e.g. whether to maintain scroll position or jump to the top of the page.
