https://mwstake.org/mwstake/ is running an EOL version of MediaWiki
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

According to https://mwstake.org/mwstake/wiki/Special:Version, the MediaWiki Stakeholders' Group wiki is running MediaWiki 1.31.0. It's bad enough that none of the 16 security or maintenance patches have been applied since 2018, but the 1.31.x branch became end-of-life 30 September 2021. This wiki should be upgraded to the current LTS (MediaWiki 1.35.5).

Event Timeline

Where is the server hosted currently? I feel like it should be moved to Cloud VPS to take advantage of available resources and for stability.

Or, maybe even moved onto SUL production (probably a far reach) or imported as subpages of a central page on the MediaWiki wiki. I feel like this would help with maintenance a ton. I don't see any crucial differences in the mwstake wiki versus the MediaWiki wiki in terms of crucial configuration (emphasis intended). It looks like it has Semantic MediaWiki and some sidebar stuff, but other than that I don't see anything crucial. (Please let me know if I'm wrong). I feel like the stuff (e.g. sidebar) could be added as good ol' wikitext in a page, and bam, done.

AFAIK it already is.

$ dig mwstake.org

mwstake.org.		38400	IN	A	185.15.56.26

$ nslookup 185.15.56.26
26.56.15.185.in-addr.arpa	name = instance-mwstake.mwstake.wmflabs.org.

oh. That's better than I thought. In any case, though, I still think it should be moved to the MW wiki.

One possible advantage of keeping it separate is that it can be used as a showcase of what's possible with MediaWiki — there are a bunch of things that are of interest to the wider MW community that are unlikely to get traction within the Wikimedia world. Perhaps it's useful to have more control over what extensions can be installed.

The maintainers are listed at https://openstack-browser.toolforge.org/project/mwstake (but I guess they're all watching this phab project).
