I was wondering if it would be possible also to include information about which groups can access the hosts, to make it possible to only tab complete the hosts that someone (like me) with limited rights can access.

Risking I'm saying the obvious here: The group information is available in hiera as profile::admin::groups. It should be possible to build something that combines hiera data and config-master data (without any specific rights needed).
