Clear and understandable UI copy for newcomers

Usability tests revealed that participants had difficulties understanding the concept of talk pages and the distinction between article and user talk pages (T294078):

The terminology “talk pages“ is not self explanatory. People were looking at in the tests, even reading it out loud and weren’t associating it with discussions. Is there an opportunity to use more newcomer friendly language in the Android app?


(This task is here to remind us about clear UI copy, solutions might also be explored when working on specific aspects to improve talk pages)

  • Make sure to review the current copy and that it’s understandable for newcomers
  • Make sure to use clear copy in onboarding elements (slides, tooltips) for newcomers
  • When using jargon language, make sure to make users familiar with the terminology first
