Tapping 'Save' does not consistently save the article
Open, LowPublicBUG REPORT

Description

Why are we doing this?

Tapping 'save' on the article toolbar does not always trigger the article to save, this might be because the tap target is currently too small.

From Znuny

In the Wikipedia iOS app sometimes the save function is bugging. When I tap it on some pages it just works and on others it will ask me where I want to save it versus it just saving like it does on some articles. And on other articles I tap the save icon and it does not work. Weird inconsistent behaviors. Also your report bug feature depends on Apple mail and since iOS allows third party email apps as default and many users don’t use Apple mail it would be nice if you updated the app to allow using other third party mail apps or just add a form.

Another Znuny report: https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom;TicketID=12118332#

It happens every time I try to save a few articles in a row. Sometimes, it stops responding after just one or two articles, but sometimes it works flawlessly for about 6~8 articles and then stops responding to the save button (the save button doesn’t change the color of itself).

I was able to replicate this - saving, opening a new article, saving, then opening another new article, etc. - after a handful of articles, it reliably doesn't show the proper state on my iPhone SE (2nd edition), though it does on an iPhone 12.

Report from an iOS user with video:

Sometimes I can’t save an article…don’t know why…. I can save many articles in a short time and this error can happen at any time; for example it can happen after saving 10 articles in a very short time; or it may happen that I save 10 articles, then the eleventh does not save it, but saves another article immediately after. The error can happen both in wi-fi and in 4g. I have tried many things but unfortunately there is no way to reproduce the error voluntarily. So I made a video to make you understand ... as you can see in the video, when I touch the icon to save the article, nothing happens. It seems to work when I leave my finger on the

icon for a few seconds: I save the article in one of my lists, but as you can see, it doesn't actually save anything because the icon remains “turned off”. The only solution is to remember the article to save and do it after a few hours or the next day, in short, after some times. However this problem has been present for a very long time. I wrote about 1 year ago but not being able to make videos (because when the error occurred I was always without
another phone) I was unable to explain well what the problem was. However, I believe that this error has been present for years now .... I remember that it occurred even when I still had an iPhone 5 ... Hope this time can help. - Version: WikipediaApp/6.8.2.1868 (iOS 15.4.1; Phone)
