Image caption overlay disappears in random situations after initial image load is completed
Closed, DuplicatePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open (in main view or in article preview) any article that includes at least 2-3 images
  2. Tap any image to see in full screen
  3. Slide left or right switching to another image

Actual results

As you navigate through image gallery, you can clearly notice that, in random situations for random images, image description overlay appears normally and then immediately disappears after approx. 0.5 second.

This happens to every (random) image, irrespective of whether it has an actual description or if only "Add image caption" button appears (and then immediately disappears).

When such random disappearance occurs, the entire overlay disappears, including:

  • image caption with "edit" pencil icon (if image has any caption)
  • the "add image caption" button (if image has no caption)
  • copyright/license icons and user name.

Sliding to another image and sliding back to the "affected" one resolves the problem and the image caption overlay appears normally.

This could happen many times in a single sequence, meaning that, if you have dozens of images in given article, and you start browsing through all of them with your left or right slide, you'll notice that one, two or more have missing (disappearing) image caption overlay when passing through them for the first time and one, two or more have correctly displayed (never disappearing) overlay from the very beginning.

I can recall this bug appearing since early December, so must be something introduced in the latest update (2021-12-02).

Expected results

Image caption overlay is displayed from the very first moment, for every image and never disappears.
