Description

What happens?:
By inserting in template: #babel in a user page, the user is not assigned to the categories related to users by language.

What should have happened instead?:
By inserting in template: #babel in a user page, the user should be assigned to the categories related to users by language.

Software version (if not a Wikimedia wiki), browser information, screenshots, other information, etc.:
The problem is not related to the browser, see for exmple my user page on lmo.wiktionary.org https://lmo.wiktionary.org/wiki/Utent:Gat_lombard and the same on the italian one https://it.wiktionary.org/wiki/Utente:Gat_lombard in order to realize that the user categories (utent) on lombard projcts don't work.

Is this problem unsolvable?

What should the name of the categories be? Should it be just per language or also have different categories for proficiency level (e.g. en-1 separate from en-2)? Is this all lmo wikis are just specific ones?

I think this request requires a link to community consensus.

Note lmo wikipedia already has a main category set.

@Bawolff
Categories should be both for level and proficiency. For example a user who says level 3 in language xx should be classified in both the categories "Utent xx" and "Utent xx-3".
The category tree should be like this one below

Categoria:Babel - Utent per lengua
:Categoria:Utent xx
::Categoria:Utent xx-0
::Categoria:Utent xx-1
::Categoria:Utent xx-2
::Categoria:Utent xx-3
::Categoria:Utent xx-4
::Categoria:Utent xx-N
Categoria:Utent yy
::Categoria:Utent yy-0
::Categoria:Utent yy-1
::Categoria:Utent yy-2
::Categoria:Utent yy-3
::Categoria:Utent yy-4
::Categoria:Utent yy-N

  • It doesn’t seem to be something that needs development in Babel; it’s just a matter of configuration. Removed MediaWiki-extensions-Babel.
  • As long as a community discussion is going on, it’s not actionable for sysadmins. Feel free to change the task status back to Open once the discussion is closed.
