Vector-2022-view-history message changed
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hello! I found today that the (vector-2022-view-history) message has changed at euwiki from "Ikusi historia" to "Historia". I can't find the message at MediaWiki ns nor at Translatewiki. Where does it come from? Thanks

Event Timeline

Interesting, @Aklapper, because three things happened at the same time:

  • The "View history" link changed to "history"
  • T300022
  • And some user plugins (like word count) now appear twice.

Word count: I'll deal with that separately. Not related and likely easily explained.

There is no vector-2022-view-history. I think the message you need to translate is history_short but the qqx code is not showing that correctly...

I've created T300069.
Does editing the message history_short on translatewiki support for you in the mean time?

I can edit history_short, but I guess that it should still be "short". Should it be changed?

Word count: I'll deal with that separately. Not related and likely easily explained.

Note that this happens also with other gadgets:

Please see T300070 for that issue.

We discussed this task today. Ideally, this tab should always show the same message regardless of skin. For now, we recommend editing the message "MediaWIki:history_short". While the message is ill-named, the only place this message is ever used is inside the history tab and it doesn't need to be a single word, so it's fine to translate this to "View history". The implication of this change is that it will change the label in all skins.

Next steps:

  • We need to make it more obvious what message is actually being used (tracked in T300069, @ovasileva will following up with language team and platform engineering about getting that prioritized)
  • We need to reconsider/re-evaluate this behavior in T300183 in the context of the new skin architecture we're developing.
