AFAIK, there isn't a Contributors-Team entity that coordinates on planning, triaging tasks, distributing work, etc. So I think it would make sense to mark it as inactive, and tasks that are assigned to it should be distributed among the teams that make up its constiuent parts (e.g. Editing-team, Growth-Team, Language-Team, etc.)

I agree. According to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/query/H6rXIVSOUXP4/#R , that would be https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/?ids=167899,115598,115597,112984,104863,90030,89576,87598,86196,88688#R that someone would need to go through.
Should the "Contributors" entries also be removed from Developers/Maintainers?
The same can probably be asked about "Reading" as well (no corresponding phab tag but used quite a bit on the maintainers page).
I went through https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/?ids=167899,115598,115597,112984,104863,90030,89576,87598,86196,88688#R and untagged Contributors, adding other teams where needed.
IMO yes, that is also why I added Code-Stewardship-Reviews because I think that needs to be part of the process (cc @Jrbranaa).

Yes, but that should probably be another task?
