Sometimes translator needs to replace old link to tvar symbol (like "$1"), and current routine is select obsolete wikitext, delete them and press tvar shortcut link below. If translator does not press shortcut link without deleting old wikitext, tvar symbol will be prepended rather than replace them.

Because of this, it will be a good idea to replace old wikitext when translator selected it and pressed tvar shortcut link.
