What happens?:

• Both static thumbnails and interactive maps are displayed in Latin transliteration or English:

What should have happened instead?:
Labels should have been displayed in Russian (or fall back to Japanese transliterated to the Cyrillic script).

Fixing the language is already possible by sending the correct lang parameter to Kartotherian, so this is probably a bug in Kartographer.

However, the untranslated place names still need to be transliterated—this is tracked separately as T305929: Maps are not transliterated into non-Latin scripts.
