Description

The end of life of Debian Stretch is approaching in 2022 and we need to move to Debian Bullseye (or Buster) before that date.

All instances in the gratitude project need to upgrade as soon as possible. Instances not upgraded by 2022-05-01 may be subject to deletion unless prior arrangements for an extended deadline has been approved by the Cloud VPS administration team.

Hello, I'd like to request an extension on this if possible. We shouldn't have any issue upgrading this in May, but we may not be able to do this before the current deadline at the end of April.

@Aklapper I'm tagging you since you're listed on the ticket but if there's somewhere specific I should be asking for an extension just let me know. Thanks!

@Aklapper I need to know whether I will have an extension or whether there is someone else I should be asking. Please respond to this today. Thank you.

@Aklapper These are the same two links in the original ticket description. Neither describes how to request a deadline extension. That's why I requested a deadline extension as my first comment on this ticket. I read both of these links in full before posting any of my 3 comments above over the last week. What I am asking for is a deadline extension.

The ticket makes it clear that a deadline extension is possible. Quoting from the ticket description above: "Instances not upgraded by 2022-05-01 may be subject to deletion unless prior arrangements for an extended deadline has been approved." So in response I am asking to make prior arrangements for an extended deadline to be approved.

As I was asking above, if you are not the person who is able to grant this extension (which is totally fine), then please let me know where/who/what system/etc I need to make this request. Please let me know today so that I can prevent a production system from being shutdown before we are able to migrate it. Any help or guidance you can give on requesting a deadline extension is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The link has a "Communication and support" section

@Aklapper I read the Communication and support section too when I made sure to read the links before making any of my comments above. In that section there were 5 subsections to choose from:

3 of the 5 subsections were ways to get news updates, so I ruled those out as places to request a deadline extension.

1 of the 5 subsections was a link to get general support on IRC. That would have been a potential candidate to request a deadline extension, except that the remaining subsection appeared to be a much more specific, straightforward, and dedicated option to make the request...

That brings me to the remaining subsection, which was a link here to Phabricator. I presumed this was the Communication and support subsection that I needed to go through when requesting a deadline extension since 1) Phabricator is the request tracker, and 2) this is where the ticket was created, and 3) this is where I was informed that a deadline extension is available, and 4) this is also listed in the Communication and support subsection. And I presumed you were who I needed to ask for that extension since you were the person added to the ticket.

I'm gathering from this thread that I should empirically rule out Phabricator as the subsection within the Communication and support section to request a deadline extension. That leaves IRC as a last more general subsection to try. Is the correct way to interpret this thread that I should be asking for a deadline extension on IRC rather than following up on the ticket sent to me in Phabricator? If so that's great, just let me know.

Please let me know if I should be asking for a deadline extension on IRC rather than Phabricator and I will do that ASAP. And again, any help or guidance you can give on requesting a deadline extension is very much greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A delay until May should be fine. When should we check back on progress here?

@Andrew Great, thank you so much! Looking at schedules coming up, I imagine we would have that migrated before/by Friday May 20th if that works for you.

The Stretch VM in this project is still present, many months later. Can you please delete it if it's no longer in use?

Sure thing, this afternoon I'll double check that everything is backed up and delete by the end of the day. Thanks!

This instance has now been deleted.

Thank you!
