Improve section discovery on the special:search page
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

As a reader, I want to be able to easily discover relevant content to not miss content that might be hiding within an article and could directly navigate to it.

This work is focused on improving the way sections are shown next to the article title so that users don’t miss the relevant content as part of https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T306626:

Requirements:

  • Improve the way sections are shown (see designs)
  • Surface sections of articles whenever the snippet shown is from a section
  • If the shown snippet is from a section, show the section name next to the article title (even if it has not met the query)
  • Users can click through to that section
  • Experience is adapted for both mobile and desktop users

Resolving because we determined this isn't the best way forward. From @Sneha in Slack:

I am thinking we could handle all of this in quick view. Based on some recent discovery on how section/snippets are shown in results I think the new design may not be an ideal presentation. So either I need to do more design explorations or we leave the way sections are showing today as it is for now and come to this later.

We will create new tickets if we decide to handle this in Quickview or make other changes to the results.
