Event Timeline

@Aklapper , @MSantos , I reported the bug around three months ago. There is no update at all. Can you respond with an update and also let me know if any more information is required from me?

There are no updates; I don't think that any further info is required

@Aklapper , I am surprised by your response. I think this is a critical bug impacting Telugu Wikipedia which is actively using Maps feature for several years and several other wikis. I initiated a discussion on Wikitech Maps discussion page in January 2022 for which also there was no response. Grafana shows equiad OSM sync lag at 13.5 weeks and codfw OSM sync log of under 60 mins today. Where else should I look for updates? Is WMF abandoning Maps project?

It is not a critical bug. Critical means directly affecting the availability of a wikipedia. Here just a tiny (annoying) piece of data is missing.

As much of wikimedia, maps is severely understaffed. This basically means that it gets a bit of attention whenever someone can get around to it. And that is just enough time to keep it mostly running.

There is no money allocated for actual development work and or future developments. There has been map data gaps for over 4 years now. This is not uncommon for wikimedia services, most of it is has major problems that luckily few people notice.

@TheDJ, Thanks for your response and clarification. In the past, though there were similar problems, the data was being synced manually typically once in a month or so. That is no longer happening in this year. For an ordinary contributor to OSM+Wikipedia, it is like editing OSM expecting to see it in Wikimedia maps and getting disappointed, leading to losing interest in the project.

This seems to be fixed with the latest server sync. I can get the Bapatla district's geoshape with the QID.
