Same icon's used on desktop as well -- this seems like it'd need to be a far-reaching change?

I don't think it's surprising that new users are confused by nice switching. It isn't necessarily a problem, but I do think we should revive the task to make VE default on mobile everywhere.
Removing source mode is not an option.
