Design details
Acceptance Criteria

Given a creator has clicked on the feedback link,
When curating on the story builder,
Then they should be directed to the wiki stories product talk page to allow them to give feedback on the builder tool.

Given a reader has clicked on the feedback link,
When reading a wiki story,
Then they should be directed to the wiki story talk page to allow them to give feedback on the story/ topic

Test Scenarios
  1. Verify that entering no text in the feedback field will show a validation error "Please enter some text."
  2. Verify that the user cannot enter text beyond the defined limit.
  3. Verify that changes to the language will change all words and button text on the feedback form.

++

  1. Verify that there's a feedback link for both creators and readers.
  2. Verify that creators are taken to the product talk page to add their feedback.
  3. Verify that readers are taken to the wiki story talk page to include their feedback.
  4. Verify that feedback can be viewed by the creators & any logged in users upon submission.
  5. Verify that feedback can be viewed by the reader upon submission.
Open questions
  1. Who is the feedback for? The author of the story or Wikimedia?

Readers give feedback to the creator
Creators give feedback to product team

  1. How can we prevent the user from misunderstanding who the recipient of the the feedback is for? E.g it is for Wikimedia and not for the writer of the story?

Our copy will need to be clear

  1. How/Where will the feedback be viewed? By Wikimedia? And by the author?

WMF Product team will see feedback from creators on the product talk page
Creators will see reader feedback on the story talk page

We could have a feedback option in the dots menu that links to the talk page

@PWaigi-WMF Thanks for the comments. I have two more questions: as a regular user of Wikipedia, if I create a story and someone leaves some feedback, would I be notified? I normally won't know where to go to see this feedback except there is some instruction somewhere.

Should the option to give feedback be at the end of the story builder, rather than in the middle of it? Or should we present the option somewhere on the Wikistory section on the Wiki page for everyone to access?

SBisson triaged this task as Medium priority.
SBisson moved this task from Ready for Dev to Dev on the Inuka-Team (Kanban) board.

Change 835668 had a related patch set uploaded (by Sbisson; author: Sbisson):

[mediawiki/extensions/Wikistories@master] Menu items to give feedback in Builder and viewer

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/835668

@SGautam_WMF do you know where I can find the "talk" icon for the menu items?

If I read the task description correctly, it says that the menu item for the viewer should be "Share your feedback" and in the builder it should be "Discussion". I don't know if it was fully intentional or a little mix up but I think the opposite is much more appropriate.

I understand "feedback" as "give your opinion" / "just tell us what you think" / "everything goes", this is exactly what we want on the project talk page, which is linked from the builder.

Whereas "discussion" is generally used for content talk pages where all comments need to be about the content's adherence to the content policy. Personal opinions are not allowed.

For readers, we thought share your feedback might make more sense as "Discussion" might be more familiar to regular wiki users . Still, It's quite possible that readers on a story page may leave a feedback about the story or in general about the project. For creators, I think we can change that to "Share your feedback".

Indeed, this is likely to happen and I guess that's also the type of feedback we hope for. In that case, you it be better to link to the project talk page from the viewer as well?

If it's not too much work then I think we can do that after checking the kind of feedback we receive for sometime.

@SBisson

  1. The Edit text should be changed to Edit this Story

  1. As a viewer, I should see Discussion as the text prompt but I can still see Share this feedback, even if it redirects me successfully to the Story:Talk page.

@EUdoh-WMF I can take care of it during CSS change session with Huei.

We changed it to "Share your feedback" for creators as well, apology, and I have updated the task too. There is a thread on this task where you can see my discussion with Stephane about it.
