New articles translated should have their contents published in their lead section
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Section translation supports the translation of new articles by translating their lead section (T260144). The contents of the lead section for the source article are translated by the user and a new article will be published with those contents as their lead section. However, currently the published contents are wrapped inside a section in the target article.

This issue can be observed in some recent translations (examples from Persian and from Turkish Wikipedias) and in the video below:

Steps to reproduce

  1. Select a suggestion to create a new article on test wiki.
  2. Translate the article title and one parragraph
  3. Publish and observe how the new article is created and it includes the contents inside a section with the same article title name.

Expected behaviour

When translating a new article (and only in that case) the expected behaviour would be to:

  • Use the title to define the page name.
  • Add the contents as part of the lead section without including the article title as a section title.
