Updates

11 Oct 2022: OUP have reinstated some content (crossed out above). T314780 has been merged, so we'll flag the remaining collections today.

Event Timeline

Unfortunately we haven't been getting a response from our contacts at Oxford University Press. We'll update here when we know more.

I would like to read Very Short Introduction books through Oxford Academic.

We're continuing to clarify which content is or isn't available - Oxford University Press have reinstated access to some materials, but don't seem to have caught everything, so we're just confirming with them which collections still aren't functional. In particular it looks like Journals still aren't available.

What collection would the series of Very Short Introductions be in on the Wikipedia Library? Would it be Oxford Academic? For example I would like access to Topology: A Very Short Introduction

This isn't something that we currently have access to, unfortunately. That might change after they fix our Academic access, so I'll check again when that's the case.

So... still no news?

We are still following up with OUP to restore access to remaining collections. However, we have not got a response regarding these yet.

Is this something that we would need a WMF grant for, should OUP not want to provide free access anymore?

I went to the contact page for Oxford Academic, and found a Live Chat button on the page (chat is available
09:00 – 22:00 BST, M– F). There's also a link for managing your institutional account, as well as a U.S. cust. svc. number for journals (800-852-7323) who can maybe tell you who to contact, if they're not the right one.

It's been a few months; can we try some of these alternatives?

Hey, any update on the same? I need to access a particular chapter related to Socrates. Asset seems to be available only on Oxford Academic. Sci-Hub doesn't have it too.

Thank you.

Unfortunately not :(

Ah, unfortunate. Do we know the reason why OUP isn't restoring access? Are funds of some sort needed?

We've just been receiving very little communication from them in response to our contact.

I am able to download books from OUP Academic again, so perhaps OUP reinstated something?

I just tried with this one and I am able to access the full-text chapter PDFs: https://doi-org.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/10.1093/oso/9780197555668.001.0001

It looks like Academic and Art are working so we've reinstated these.

Thanks. But please note that we do not have access to everything in Academic, cf., e.g., https://doi-org.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/10.1093/med/9780190050726.003.0033 So, you might like to tell users that some content still may be missing.

Well, we also lost the medical section in Oxford Handbooks Online.

Well, we also lost the medical section in Oxford Handbooks Online.

And we have also lost Oxford Law which is a resource we hardly have access to in this country, even in academic libraries.

Yeah, the book link above worked for me, but this paper I've been trying to get for ages still does not: https://academic-oup-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/jiplp/article-abstract/13/11/878/5075860?redirectedFrom=fulltext

This paper looks to be working for me.

We met with Oxford today and they're going to look into ANB, EE, and the remaining Law collections. Academic journals appear to all be working, but we don't have all books.

Just noting that access to Oxford Scholarly Editions would be nice (I am particularly interested in the new Oxford Shakespeare critical editions).

Yay!

It has been four months since the last update. Is ANB coming back or is it not?

We're frustrated too. Unfortunately we've been having issues with OUP's responsiveness on this and related issues of late. We're trying as much as we can to make progress on this but unfortunately it's somewhat out of our hands at the moment.

Can the affected resources be removed from the library collection page? They now just cause disappointment.

We had kept them there for now so that folks could find this Phab ticket, but given the length of time this has been going on I'm inclined to agree. I'll hide them for now.

Good news!

I have just had confirmation that all of the access is set up for 2024 for all of the IP addresses and ranges you requested. Please let me know if there are still any gaps.

I've reactivated the following after confirming they're now working:

  • ANB
  • Electronic Enlightenment

OUP Law is giving me an error message, but I believe OUP Law content has now been centralised in Oxford Academic.

Please re-open if you encounter further issues.

First of all, this is excellent news indeed! Thanks, again, for your hard work.

However, as far as OUP Law is concerned, I'm afraid not all of it is included in Oxford Academic. E.g., the Max Planck Encyclopedia of Public International Law is not available in academic. This is why I would beg to re-open the issue.
