https://lists.wikimedia.org/postorius/lists/wikifr-l.lists.wikimedia.org/ has been inactive since years.

The French speaking community has the IRC channel and now even a Discord channel https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aide:Discord. I believe this is mostly the reason why the ML is dead.

Now we have with @PBradley-WMF to deal with a request to remove/hide 10 years old emails which disclose private information.

On the top of this, as owner of ML, my password somehow does not work and the reminder password solution fails to deliver a new one.

So all-in-one, just archiving and making the ML private might be the best thing to do. This is why I request it.

I can try to do it but it won't fix much of your issues tbh. For example, even if we close it down, the archives will be public and the clean up of private data needs to happen regardless.

For the emails, I asked @PBradley-WMF to send me an email on the ones I can remove them. I haven't got anything yet.

Regarding the owner password issue. You need to create an account that's connected to your admin email and your account automatically would have the admin rights in the ML. The concept of owner password is completely gone in mailman3. If you still have trouble getting back your admin rights, let me know in private.

I get it if it's just for our responsibility, but if there is an expectation that actually deletes it from the Internet.. just saying it's already been archived 14 times by archive.org and there will be more places that have it.

I have achieved to create account an retrieve admin access to the list, but really no clue how to remove the few messages (from the public archive). Not even sure this is possible at all. As a consequence, I have put the whole ml archive in private. Unfortunately, this seems to fail, archive is still accessible at https://lists.wikimedia.org/hyperkitty/list/wikifr-l@lists.wikimedia.org/latest

hmm, it can be that it's only available to super-admins. I can't say for sure. Anyway, doesn't matter. If you send the link to me, I can delete them for you.

@Dzahn I reopen the task because it seems people can still post and subscribe to the mailing list. This should not be the case (and as moderator I would like to not get notices for this).

I think because we deleted those messages, archiving didn't seem necessary. I can take care of it later today or you can hand over adminship to another user.

I properly archived it now. It's possible to revert this if there is a need later.
