Search page should offer choice of namespaces in a more ranked fashion
Closed, ResolvedPublicFeature

Description

On advanced search (and perhaps other places) all namespaces are listed without regard to their relative prominence within the wiki. Users get frustrated when they search through a lengthy list of namespaces many of which are devoid of content.

Suggestion is to have several lists, eg "Content namespaces", "Top-10 namespaces", "Talk namespaces", "Other namespaces".

It'd be great if the namespaces listed in "Content namespaces" would match the wiki-specific configuration per $wgContentNamespaces, and the "Top-10" namespaces were ones rank ordered by their size or popularity statistics.

Isn't this long solved with the Advanced-Search interface? There are predefined sets of namespaces (e.g. all talk namespaces) as well as a quick search feature. That even accepts numeric namespace ids as well as canonical English namespace names on non-English wikis.
