Hm, purging both of the images and clearing my cache made these links work for me.

At bug 28613#c75 I was told its not related to that, and yet, maybe it is? They are purging images there too to make the images work the way they should be. Though neither of the images here have been updated recently.

Now I'm getting an error message at not so round thumb size: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/88/Relief_Map_of_Germany.png/232px-Relief_Map_of_Germany.png. Other sizes work and purging doesn't help.

This is quite confusing...
Sometimes &action=purge wont help and I append a random string of characters to the thumb url. (e.g. &sdlfkj)
Seems it has helped in this situation, too.

I think this is tracked in Bug 31680. This one should be marked as a duplicate.

No, these are not reuploads. All the examples here work and there doesn't seem to be anything new not tracked in other bugs, closing. Reopen (or file a new bug in this component) if you're still having problems not covered elsewhere or similar examples which you don't know what to ascribe. Thanks.
