Add moderator-focused description of Newcomer tasks, so we can update `Newcomer task` tags

Description

User Story

As the Growth team, I want to be sure that patrollers and community moderators understand newcomer tasks (AKA suggested edits), because they add a patrolling burden so it's important to understand that these tasks help more newcomers start editing and improve retention.

Description

Newcomer Tasks are tagged (in Recent Changes, in diffs, etc.), example:

Tags: Visual edit, Newcomer task, Newcomer task: copyedit

However the "Newcomer task" and "Newcomer task: copyedit" tags link to the very lengthy project page: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Growth/Personalized_first_day/Newcomer_tasks

This isn't a very helpful page for community moderators who likely just want a quick summary of what a "Newcomer task" is and why they exist.

Let's simply create a new, succinct summary of what these tasks are about AND the impact they have on newcomer activation and retention, and then link to this new page.

Trizek-WMF raised the priority of this task from Medium to High.

Great, thanks!

Do you think we need a section for every edit type? I was envisioning this as more concise. Basically the intro like you have + links to other Growth pages as needed. Or maybe we could simply collapse the task type breakdown?

But you know better than me what patrollers / moderators would find most useful, so whatever you think is best!

Thank you for the feedback.

Most interactions I have with users who have questions about suggested edits end either by a test of the features by these users, or by me copy-pasting the guidance we provide to newcomers. So I think providing the instructions is helpful. But I also agree on the fact that the TL;DR should be put forward.

I plan to use anchors for the tags: Newcomer task will go to the top of the page, but Newcomer task: copyedit will go to the Copyedit section. Arriving on a collapsed section might be counter intuitive. I'll figure out if it is possible to improve this.

I also have to find a way to properly display the contents of the messages, as some of them use some parameters that aren't available at mediawikiwiki.

To be continued! :)

Thanks! I've reviewed and edited. I've added this task / topic to the Growth Ambassador meeting agenda.

Feedback from Ambassadors from last meeting:

  • There are no images, was that intentional to keep it concise?
  • The content is good. We need to remember the "expand article" task isn't really functional on Spanish wikipedia currently because they don't have enough articles in that category. Perhaps more templates should be added to that task configuration? https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Especial:EditGrowthConfig

All feedback was taken into account.

Images aren't added as there are no images for each task. Only Suggested tasks have a proper design.

All tasks aren't available at all wikis: I put a reminder at the top of the page.

@Trizek-WMF - I've broken the Engineering effort into a separate task: T329906: Link "Newcomer Task" tagged edits to new mediawiki page with moderator-focused description of tasks

Should we consider this complete, or do you think we need to discuss translations with Ambassadors again?

I think we are good. We just need translations.

I added a line about it in the next Ambassadors' meeting agenda.
