2022 English fundraising messages in iOS app
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hi iOS app colleagues! I'm writing to kick off the fundraising messages y'all run in the Wikipedia app conterminously with our web Wikipedia end of year push. Sorry for getting this started a bit late, let me know if you have any concerns about execution on your end.

Dates: 29 November - 31 December
Language: English only
Countries: US, CA, GB, IE, AU, NZ

We'll be able to track clickthroughs and donations on our side.

We can carry forward the same designs and functionality from last year (T294996), but we have some updated copy and new links for you:

US

To all our readers in the U.S.,
The Wikimedia projects, which include Wikipedia and 12 sister sites, are something special. Like a library or a public park where we can all go to learn—a refuge for the mind. Each year, we ask readers to pitch in whatever they can comfortably afford to make access to free knowledge possible. Most people don't give, and that's totally ok. That's the beauty of it—the work and donations of a few make something beautiful possible for everyone in the world. We are financially secure because each year, enough people choose to donate $2.75 or whatever seems right. If you'd like to help this year, give whatever you like. Thank you. — The Wikimedia Foundation

@Jgiannelos Can we get this changed deployed by the end of this week? We've done some light local development testing but it will need to be out before we can do heavier QA testing in the apps. Also tagging @Dbrant in case he has objections.

Pcoombe added a subscriber: Pcoombe.

Hi, apologies for the last minute changes but I'm sure you're aware of the debates over our banner messages. I've edited the task description with new text which has community approval. Please can you update to this text before launching the banners? And let us know if you need extra time.

Everything else (links etc) can stay the same. Thanks!

@Pcoombe we pre-emptively rolled back the banner deployment to pre-empt a possible change in plans/messaging/direction but @Dbrant should be able to get this sorted on Monday.
