"Refine Item selection" button is confusing when loading results directly
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Problem:
On the results page there is the "refine Item selection" button. This button copy does not make sense when accessing the results page directly (e.g. though the Mismatch Finder gadget).

Suggested copy:
"Find more mismatches"

Acceptance criteria:

  • button copy on results page is changed

Original report:
When loading results from the Mismatch Finder gadget, you are taken straight to a URL like https://mismatch-finder.toolforge.org/results?ids=Q12345. From this page, "Refine Item selection" with a back arrow is confusing - "refine" sounds like it will be a filter but the arrow suggests it will go back... but "back" in this context would mean back to Wikidata, not back to the main page.

Lydia_Pintscher moved this task from Backlog to Needs work on the Mismatch Finder board.

'Refine item selection' is definitely a very accurate label for the button in case you accessed the results page from the tool's main page. I agree, though, that this might sound confusing for gadget users, who follow a different path there. Some alternatives that might work (please let us know what you think, @Nikki ๐Ÿ™ ):

  1. 'Modify item selection'
  2. 'Find new mismatches'
  3. 'Back to item selection'

(Please note that 'item' was lowercased deliberately. Let me know there're any reasons not to do so).

Arian and I discussed it and option 2 seems best, we just updated "new" to "more" because "new" might imply that you can get new mismatches for the same Item on top of the ones you already see.

Yes we keep these capitalized intentionally when talking about the Wikidata concepts to keep them apart from the general concept of an item or property for example.

Sounds good! I agree with your replacement of 'new' by 'more': good idea. Thanks for updating the task description ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป
