Mismatch Finder should be translatable
Open, MediumPublic

Description

As a Mismatch Finder reviewer I want to review mismatches in my own (non-English) language in order to more easily contribute

Problem:
The Mismatch Finder is only available in English. This is an issue for non-English speakers to review mismatches in their language.

The Mismatch Finder should be accessible in languages other than English. This means the following should be translated or translable

  • User interface
  • Items and Properties labels if available

Language fallbacks should be observed where possible.

Acceptance criteria:

  • The Mismatch Finder is accessible in a language other than English
  • TBD based on questions

Open questions:
How do we determine which language to display? e.g. URL parameters, browser language, dropdown language picker UI

Input-wise, using browser language and URL parameter is pretty easy. Dropdown language picker UI would be more effort.

The other big challenge is: how do we handle language fallback? That is, we have to determine if a message is available in a given language, and if that is not the case, show it in a fallback language. This should be a non-issue for Item labels, etc., but it is a problem that we need to solve for Mismatch-Finder UI copy.

That being said, this is not a new problem. Maybe there is already a PHP library out there that we can use? Or maybe Laravel already has some fancy built-in magic to solve that?

Localization of the user interface is already implemented, we need to add translation files in other languages. For more information please refer to the Mismatch Finder docs.
