Add "Copy link to this post" button in post dropdown
Open, Needs TriagePublicFeature

Description

Feature summary (what you would like to be able to do and where):

Add a "copy link to this post" in a flow topic dropdown

image.png (400×340 px, 24 KB)

Could also be done for individual replies as well.

Use case(s) (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem, and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not describe only a solution):

Clicking on "Permalink" and then copying the address in the address bar or right-clicking "Permalink" and then clicking "Copy link" is annoying. A direct button to copy the link to the resource like what is available on most other other social media websites would be useful:

Benefits (why should this be implemented?):

Better communication

Change 878145 had a related patch set uploaded (by Lectrician1; author: Lectrician1):

[mediawiki/extensions/Flow@master] Add "Copy link" to topic menu dropdown

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/878145

Thanks for submitting this feature request and the patch @Lectrician1. In which order should the new button be placed, after the "Permalink" like the description screenshot?

@Sgs Yes it should replace it. Please also see T326053: Make title of Structured Discussions Topics on Talk pages a link to the topic and remove Permalink

As for what order, I currently have it as the first option but that's because it was the easiest to do with jQuery. Please see the patch.

Apologies, I found T326053 right after submitting my comment here. Replacing "Permalink" sounds good, I left some comments in the patch about the button only being added to the first topic and the order.

kostajh subscribed.

I'm not sure it is great UX to replace Permalink with the "Copy" button; I'd suggest an addition rather than replacement. There might be workflows where people do want to navigate to the permalink.

Anyway, Growth is not actively maintaining Flow aside from urgent bug fixes (see also T325222: Flow/StructuredDiscussions Extension: Code Stewardship Review), so I am moving this to Triaged.
