Two failed disks in ms-be2067
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hi,

Two drives have failed in ms-be2067 (/dev/sdw [label swift-sdv1], and /dev/sdz). Can they be replaced ASAP, please?

/dev/sdw
lshw -C disk tells us nothing as the kernel device has gone AWOL :( but bus info: scsi@0:2.21.0 is missing, so it must be that one.
megacli -ldpdinfo -a0 likewise is missing (and Virtual drive 21 is AWOL) but Slot Number: 21 is missing.
I attempted to turn on the locator light thus:
sudo megacli -PDLocate -PhysDrv [32:21] -a0
(which reported success)

/dev/sdz
lshw -C disk tells us bus info: scsi@0:2.25.0
megacli -ldpdinfo -a0 tells us Target Id: 25 is associated with
Enclosure Device ID: 32, Slot Number: 23
I've turned on the locator light thus:
sudo megacli -PDLocate -PhysDrv [32:23] -a0

Event Timeline

kern.log is 220M(!) full of errors about these two drives.

I created a self dispatch it was rejected twice the reason being that i didn't specify the type or disk (480 or 8T) or I did, so I had to call Dell to clarify this.

I am on the phone again with Dell now on this case, since 3-06-2023 no update on the case.

Dell create a new case

Work Order 439017270 has been submitted for 2 8tb hard drives parts only.

Your dispatch shipped on 3/13/2023 4:41 PM

@MatthewVernon hey i am about to go pickup the disk i need for you to ping me on dc-ops channel so we can coordinate the replacing of both disks. Thanks

Both 21 and 23 replaced

Hi @Papaul Sorry, but there's still a missing disk in this system - Virtual Drive 21 is absent, which I think is Slot Number: 19
Could you have another look, please?

...this may be a different disk that's failed, so maybe it just got unseated?

Physical Disk 0:2:19 Foreign 19 7451.5 GB SATA HDD No

@Papaul that's the one - can you clear the Foreign state from that disk, please? I can't figure out how to do it, and I think without that config being cleared it's not available to the OS.

[for avoidance of doubt, you can operate on this system at any time, including rebooting if necessary]
