Some users can't create clippings at Newspapers.com via proxy access
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

A user reported accessing Newspapers.com via proxy and logging in to their account there. They previously had a login via this account before we moved to proxy. When trying to create a clipping, they receive an error message "Your account is not allowed to create a clipping at this time."

Event Timeline

Summary: User failed to toss cookies, all is fine now.

Details: Oddly, I was able to clip yesterday with the Newspapers.com account I have used previously for a few years. I'm not sure what changed as previously I had tried it with a private window. Just now I realized that Firefox's private window has access to my cookies. If I'm logged in to WP and then open a private window in Firefox and go to WP, then I'm logged in! I'm fairly certain that this was not the case for me when I tried it before asking about this issue, perhaps I was logged out when I opened the private window. At the time, I was able to replicate the issue under Firefox and Safari, though I did not attempt to clear my cookies under Safari.

So, I'm all set, this could be closed.

BTW - it would be helpful if the newspapers.com entry on https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/users/my_library/ had a link to the talk page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Newspapers.com

Oh, OK, thanks! Let us know if the issue returns.

The library is used by editors from many projects so I'm not sure sending them to enwiki is necessarily the best solution, but I agree this talk page is somewhat orphaned now so it would be nice to make it more obvious.
