Wikivoyage: Show nearby listings on Kartographer maps as well
Open, Needs TriagePublicFeature

Description

Feature summary
On Kartographer maps in Wikivoyage, show listings that are defined on other articles than the one you're looking at. Similar to showing nearby articles on Kartographer maps.
Context: On Wikivoyage, maps have listings (attractions and monuments, activities, shops, restaurants, bars and lodgings). These are defined per article.

Use case(s)

  • I am looking at a Kartographer map, e.g. on the article Madrid. On this map, I see several listings. When I enable the button "show nearby articles", I also see nearby articles.
  • I am moving the map around, exploring another area of Spain. When I do that, I still see nearby articles. But I see no listings, because the map only shows the listings defined for Madrid– even though there might be listings in that area, defined in other articles.

Wish
Show listings defined in other articles.

Benefits

  • This feature can add more useful information to a map: Articles about places that are close to each other might have (slightly) different listings.
  • "The assignment of listings to certain articles on WV is sometimes a little arbitrary—many discussions have already been fought around this on WV. It would certainly help identifying interesting (nearby) destinations/listings that might have failed to be included into the current WV article. This way also the shortcoming of proper structuring of region and city articles (Where do you put which listings?), which many articles inhibit on WV, can be overcome."
