Rename "Public policy" to "Global Advocacy" (and subpages) on meta-wiki
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I maintain the WMF Global Advocacy team's Meta-Wiki page. Our team-name changed a year ago from "Public Policy" to "Global Advocacy."

Request: Can you please help me change everywhere it says "public policy" to "Global Advocacy", including all the subpages as well?

Main page: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Public_policy

Event Timeline

Aklapper renamed this task from Rename WMF department meta-wiki page to Rename "Public policy" to "Global Advocacy" (and subpages) on meta-wiki.Apr 3 2023, 3:28 PM

If this is a team, would it make sense to rename to "Global Advocacy Team" instead? Seeing the URL, I would not expect some team page.

Hi @Aklapper ! I prefer not to add "team." I noticed that most other teams do not add "team" (see examples below). Moreover, this page is about the work of the Foundation's Global Advocacy efforts at large, which includes efforts from other departments as well as with affiliates.

(Just in case, because this and many of the subpages are translatable pages this means that Translations: namespace pages also need to be renamed; Though I am not sure why one would do that via Phabricator (so I am assuming a shell script execution is expected?) rather than just making the moves via the normal GUI)

Translatable pages with more than 500 items to move (i.e. translation subpages, translation units, etc.) cannot be moved through the wiki interface, it needs the rETRA scripts/moveTranslatableBundle.php script (see mediawiki.org).

@Zabe Since you have performed some of this moves in the past, is this something you'd be willing to do as well?

@MarcoAurelio, hm, but this is quite a small page
