keyboard shortcut for random page doesn't work if the random page link is removed from the sidebar
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

The keyboard shortcut to view a random page (Alt+x / Alt+Shift+x by default on Windows) only works if the sidebar has the link to view a random page. I assume this also happens for other sidebar links and their respective keyboard shortcuts (e.g. recent changes and Alt+r / Alt+Shift+r), but have never had cause/opportunity to test.

This seems like expected behavior to me; the keyboard shortcut is associated with the link on the sidebar.

What are the steps to reproduce? I was under the impression that the sidebar always has this link.

If the link is accidentally missing, then i think the bug is that the link is missing, not that the hotkey is missing.

If the link is missing on purpose, then i agree with pppery that this is expected behavior.

Some wikis decide to intentionally remove the random link (and/or other links) from the sidebar, probably usually while trying to stop spambots. If this is expected behavior, it should be documented as such, and if it's not going to change, this ticket should be closed WONTFIX.
