Displaying format of numbers in Personal Praise module for Arabic Wikipedia (Arabic/Hindi)
Open, MediumPublic

Description

in the Personal Praise preferences, mentors can precise the number of days of edits. This number is displayed in different ways whether you are using:

  • Firefox:

Firefox, numerals Arabic, Growth PP.png (1×1 px, 377 KB)

  • or Chrome:

Chrome, numerals Arabic, Growth PP.png (1×2 px, 392 KB)

Normally in Arabic Wikipedia we use Arabic numerals (like it is displayed in Chrome) and not Hindi numerals as it is displayed in Firefox.

Thanks for filling the task @Dyolf77_WMF! Moving to current sprint, as it's a bug report in an actively developed feature.

As part of investigating this, I wanted to check how does Special:Homepage behave wrt Arabic numerals at arwiki. I noticed that the behavior (in Google Chrome) is different when uselang=ar is used:

when all numerals (except the 999+ one) are Hindi (wrong behavior)

and when I switch the language to ar in my preferences:

when the numerals are Arabic (as expected).

Interestingly enough, the behavior of non-Vue parts of Special:Homepage is correct in both scenarios:
