New interwiki links should be imported. Conflicts occurring during import should be reported.

Since this information is available from http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Interwiki_map and the API (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&meta=siteinfo&siprop=interwikimap), it isn't likely to be included in the dumps.

The bug is about the software, not wmf specific setup. Usually all or most of these wmf-default values will be deleted, since they too often conflict with interwiki links actually needed.

This is indeed helpful, but requires the source of the import to be still active and online. The bug is about that it is not possible to restore an earlier-made backup of a wiki's content.
