WikiConference North America is considering using Matrix as its chat tool. This could to some extent be done just using matrix.org, but it would be nicer if we could support custom authentication at least.

Things we'll probably want:
- Set up our own homeserver as we'll need it for custom authentication. The conference will have hundreds of participants, hard to predict how many of them will use chat, EMS pricing is per-user and relatively expensive, so we'll probably want another option - I think etke.cc is the second most prestigious host.
- Configure wikiconference.org as the homeserver domain. See T261531 on how it's done.
- Configure the homeserver to use Wikimedia SUL (the required configuration is in T230536 - not refined, but since this is a one-time thing and usernames will be mostly ASCII I think it's good enough)
- See if there's a way to make links thatsend users directly to the OAuth approval screen and then to the chatroom, instead of having to click Register etc.
- Set up mjolnir
- Maybe set up bridging with Discord or Telegram if the conference will have a channel there?
- Some way to differentiate conference participants (a group/flair)? Not sure it's needed
Anything else?
