Possible misspelling on [[MediaWiki:Project-localized-name-mniwiktionary/en]] source message
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Hi:

I am not sure if this is intended or not, but there are two messages using different spellings for the same language name:

According to this Wikipedia article both spellings seem correct, but this leads to inconsistencies in the source messages for translation.

Maybe the string in MediaWiki:Project-localized-name-mniwiktionary/en should be modified to "Meitei Wiktionary" to match the other message?

Regards.

I agree, these should be consistent. I would use the name "Meetei" because it appears in Unicode documents (e.g. https://www.unicode.org/charts/ ) or the name "Manipuri" because it appears in CLDR. But I don't have a particularly strong opinion.

And as per https://www.ethnologue.com/language/mni/ and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meitei_language, it should be "Meitei". I am trying to see if there are any community members from Manipur in Telegram channels who may have more thoughts to share on this topic. There is no strong reason for which one to pick out of the two, going with the change to the Wiktionary title.

It should be "Meetei" as The Manipur Official Language (Amendment) Act, 2021 mention officially.
