Probably not now, but eventually when the wiki is mature.

For now, moving to No current plans. This is nothing we are going to be able to do in the foreseeable future.

I think this would be a bad idea.
- IP edits account for effectively all vandalism I come across on Wikidata. It surprises me when it's someone who bothered to create an account.
- The barrier for creating an account is very low (unless you're blind, but that's a separate problem). You don't need to use your real name. You don't even need to provide an email address.
- It's very difficult to interact with IP users, e.g. to help them improve their edits. IP addresses can change very frequently, especially IPv6 ones. Some people even tell others to not leave messages for IP users because they consider it a waste of time.
- If Wikidata is any indication, we will still end up protecting a large number of pages anyway: In Wikidata, all properties and over 2.8 million items are protected, which is around 1 in every 25 items which aren't scientific articles.

Shouldn't anonymous users be able to edit talk pages and project chat at least? Why protect the whole website, including talk pages?
