We’re planning a few updates to the Design Strategy website and would appreciate your help with the following:

  1. Site migration
  • Migrate the Design Strategy site to: research.wikimedia.org/uxr
  • Set up this subdomain
  • Redirect all traffic from the current Design Strategy site to the new URL
  1. Navigation update
  • Remove the Design Blog and Initiatives sections
  • Rename “Timeline” to “Research” in the left navigation

FYI I plan to make a bunch of content updates via gitlab. Letting you know in case that affects the order you want to do this work.

Let me know if anything needs clarification! Thanks

Research Project Updates
Considering that we're removing the initiatives section (see above comment), just update the (currently) "Timeline" (soon-to-be) "Research" page with the following projects:

-2025-

@DDeSouza , over the next few working days, we need the current UXR site to be up to date.
https://design.wikimedia.org/strategy/ is currently confusing: it says Design on the top left, Codex on the top right, Strategy, etc. The left nav has a collapsable menu that says "strategy" and another one that says "about". We need this to look more cohesive while we are waiting on research.wm.org to be finalized for Codex. At the same time, we are currently working on re-doing some of the design elements in the preview pages you've created, so I don't want you to do a big UXR site re-design now only to have to change things once the design for research is settled. Therefore, either (a) make design.wm.org/strategy look like the UXR preview you created, or (b) make the following changes to the current site:

Please replace Design in the top left with UX Research
Please remove all of the icons and links on the top right. Keep WMF logo (linking to the WMF), search, settings.
Remove the collapsable menus
The menu should have the following order: About (links to the landing page), Research, Team, Collaborators, Participate, Collaborate. Or you can follow the format you have on the preview site- whatever is most streamlined for this interim period.
The landing page/About text:

UX Research uses qualitative and quantitative methods to understand the experiences, needs, motivations, and challenges of the people who use and contribute to Wikimedia projects. Through interviews, observation, surveys, diary studies, concept testing, and other research methods, the team helps the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) better understand how people interact with its products, communities, and technologies.

UX Research generates insights that inform the design of products, programs, and strategies that serve the Wikimedia movement. By studying users in their real-world contexts, researchers identify needs, goals, pain points, and opportunities that help the WMF make informed, human-centered decisions. In doing so, the team elevates the voices and experiences of readers, contributors, developers, and other users, ensuring their perspectives are represented in product, program, and strategic decision-making. The team works throughout the product lifecycle, conducting generative research to understand problem spaces and evaluative research to assess and refine potential solutions. As part of Wikimedia Research[link], UX Research works closely with Design[link] and product teams [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Product#Product] to bring user perspectives into decision-making throughout the development process.
