The input method is marked as beta now, we can remove it out of beta status once it is tested and stable.
In Pune in February I created the first usable version of a transliteration layout. Since then it was tested by several Punjabi speakers. They pointed out some problems, so I committed several improvements to the layout and documented it [1]
I received more positive feedback after that - some in the email and some on my talk page [1]. We now have confirmation that the transliteration layout is usable.
In fact, it's better than the current local JavaScript solution that the Punjabi Wikipedia uses for two reasons:
So, the extension can be enabled now. The current JavaScript solution must be disabled. I tried to post requests about this on the village pump of that Wikipedia and to contact the two sysops of that project, but after several weeks they didn't reply. I believe that intervention is justified in this case, because the current situation may be repelling people.

For what it's worth, here's some community approval:

I also tested it extensively with other Punjabi speakers.

Sorry, but Niklas Laxstrom has said in a comment on the Gerrit change that this is scheduled for deployment next Tuesday.
